Amish carpenter Jason Huyard blames himself for his role in his buddy Seth's death. At Seth's funeral, Jason sees Veronica Fisher, Seth's grieving fiancée, and although he doesn't speak to her, he makes plans to offer his condolences. Veronica's grief over the loss of her true love is crippling. She wanders the house, finding one task after another to keep her busy. While cleaning out the attic, she comes across her grandmother's recipes. The one for raspberry pie is so popular with her family that she begins to make it as therapy. Soon, her father builds a roadside stand for her. Jason buys one of her pies, never admitting his friendship with Seth. As time goes by, Jason buys more pies, and he and Veronica begin to know and like each other. But Jason still doesn't tell her he was present at Seth's death. In the first book in her Amish Heirloom series, Clipston, creator of the popular Kauffman Amish Bakery series (A Season of Love, 2012), takes readers on a roller-coaster ride through grief, guilt, and anxiety.--Mosley, Shelley Copyright 2015 Booklist

Clipston, author of the popular Kauffman Amish Bakery series, will no doubt draw fans to the first in her Amish Heirloom series. The "heirloom" is a raspberry-pie recipe found in an attic trunk by Veronica Fisher as she mourns the death of her fiancé, Seth. Veronica bakes pies to help salve her broken heart-and finds one steady customer, Jason Huyard, who begins to weave his way into that shattered heart. But Jason knows more about Seth's death than he lets on, a secret that threatens his growing relationship with Veronica. Will he tell her the truth and risk losing her? Clipston is well versed in Amish culture and does a good job creating the world of Lancaster County, Penn. The only complaint readers may have is the repeated descriptions of the conflict that threatens Jason and Veronica. Despite the constant reminders, Amish fiction fans will enjoy this story-and want a taste of Veronica's raspberry pie! Agent: Sue Brower, Natasha Kern Literary Agency. (Dec.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC.
